All About Ms. Vodicka

This is my second year teaching fourth grade at J.O. Davis Elementary and I am very excited about it. Here is a little bit about me:

I was born and raised in Houston, TX and moved to The Woodlands in third grade where I stayed until moving off for college. I attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX where I majored in Elementary Education. I graduated in May 2007 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.

After college I moved to Dallas, TX to begin my teaching career. I absolutely love living in the city and love to call this place my home. In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends and family, going to Texas Rangers games and Mavs games, and playing with my two dogs, Tannah and Jackson. Another activity that I enjoy in my free time is planning my wedding! My fiance Zach and I will be getting married August 1, 2009!

I am pleased to join you in the process of educating your child. I believe that a consistent joint effort on the part of the parents and the teacher is key to maintaining self-esteem, developing skills, and promoting positive behavior in children. I will keep you informed about your child’s progress in my class. I need your support for homework assignments, academic goals and the classroom discipline guidelines. Each evening, your fourth grader will bring home a Student Planner. In this planner, homework assignments will be recorded and checked by me before they are dismissed. Each evening your child will also bring home a daily conduct folder. Through the use of the Student Planner and the Conduct Folder, you will always know how your child is doing in my class. I ask that you discuss these items with your child daily and sign each of these every night. Communication between us is key!

This year there are a few new and exciting things in fourth grade that your students will be involved with. For starters, we will be team teaching. Therefore the only subjects I will be teaching are Language Arts/Reading/Social Studies. I team with Mrs. Julie Fausak and she will be teaching Math/Science. Students are in my room for part of the school day and then they are with her for the second half. So far the transition has been a success for all students and I think that they are truly enjoying the opportunity to work with two different teachers.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to either email me or call me. Email is the fastest way to communicate with me throughout the day because my computer is always on and I can reply quickly! Calling during conference hours (9:20-10:05) is best or after school. Otherwise you will have to leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I can. My email address is cvodicka@irvingisd.net and the school phone number is 972.313.4900.

                                                                                        Sincerely,
                                                                                   Ms. Courtney Vodicka
